I’m sure most of you are familiar with smart phones and their ability
to access virtually anything with the swipe of a finger. But how many
of you can imagine this scenario? You walk into your living room and
plop down on the sofa. Someone forgot to replace the remote in its home,
but you don’t really need it. Instead, you simply speak to the
enormous television, with unbelievable resolution, in normal sentences
to find something to watch.
Have a specific TV show or movie in mind? This TV speaks back to you,
telling you whether your show is available for viewing on live TV, or
on one of the many existing apps, such as Netflix, and takes you
directly to your entertainment.
Maybe you have no idea what you want to watch. That’s not a problem.
Your TV has facial recognition, and knows what you, and everyone else in
the house likes, by your previous views, and also through its
connection with your iPad, iPhone, or other tech gadgets. So, the TV
then gives you numerous customized options to choose from. It not only
has voice control, but gesture control as well, which allows you to
search and make your selection by merely waving your arm in the
direction you would like the page to turn and performing a few
uncomplicated hand movements to make your choice.
The gesture controls are also convenient while browsing through the
many available social and entertainment apps, for example, giving a
thumbs-up is all it takes to like a Facebook post. And all while your
television is locating your ideal film, checking your messages and
playing your favorite tunes that you have saved in your phone, it is
also able to connect with your other smart appliances to perform tasks
such as monitoring your laundry cycle and changing your thermostat.
The Future is now.
Twenty years ago, this would have sounded like a Science Fiction
movie. Remarkably, this is more than just a fascinating scenario. Just
this week, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Samsung
introduced these incredible features in their innovative Smart TVs and
the useful, new Samsung home screen, the Smart Hub UI. Do you already
own a fairly new Samsung TV? Don’t stress, you can also convert your
current TV to include the new Smart Hub UI.
The date of availability and the prices have yet to be announced, but
are said to be released sometime in 2013. What do you think of the
advancements Samsung has made in their televisions? Will this be your
new favorite electronic?
