Fitness trackers
have been the rage in the past months, what with people with
dispensable income becoming more aware of their fitness needs. Of
course, the fact fashion dictates that people pay more attention to
health and exercise – not to mention gadgets and software that are
supposed to make them more fun – also plays a huge role in the
popularity of these devices.
One cannot disregard the cost of fitness trackers, though. There are
some that are not so heavy on the budget, but it is very easy to spend a
hundred dollars on a device. Now, what if there is a way to get all the
benefits that fitness trackers offer without having to spend all that
money?
That’s where the new fitness app, Moves, comes into the picture.
Launched earlier this month, Moves is the baby of a startup from
Finland, ProtoGeo. In developing the app, the makers wanted to reach out
to a wide audience – obviously broader than the market of fitness
trackers such as Nike’s FuelBand and Fitbit.
Will the app move you?
Sure, it is just an app, but if you think about it, why do you need a
separate device to do all the tracking when fitness trackers are
coupled with a smartphone app most of the time anyway? What Moves does
is to basically provide all those tracking abilities via your iPhone.
Moves does the following:
- Automatic Tracking: Records daily walking, cycling and running.
- Places: Recognizes places in your daily life.
- Storyline: Visualizes your day in an easy-to-read timeline.
- Routes on map: See the paths you took.
- Pedometer: Counts your steps, so you can set simple goals.
I particularly like the Storyline feature, which is shown below.
If you think about it, even that brief summary of Moves’s features is enough to make one curious and try the app out.
For visual people, here’s a quick chart which you can refer to if you want to compare Moves and other fitness trackers.
Considering that Moves is available on the App Store for FREE, it is a very good deal!
