Many people are concerned about internet privacy. Reducing the vast
amounts of information about you on the internet can be a daunting task,
and most people wouldn’t even know where to start. Now, perhaps
ironically, there’s an app for that. It’s called DeleteMeMobile, and it recently launched for iOS devices in the Apple App Store.
Apps that delete personal information may be the new normal, as
personal data has become huge currency for the companies that buy and
sell it. Data broker websites like Spokeo and Intelius collect an
almost endless amount of information about you, including family
members’ names, religion, estimated income, and even your internet usage
history.
Once you have provided DeleteMeMobile with information about
yourself, it uses the information to search for matches on the
internet. After it finds your information, it lists the results for
you. You then have to review the information and make sure that it is
actually yours. If it is not actually a match, you can click on the
results and select “This isn’t me.” If, however, it is your
information, you can then select “DeleteMe” in order to have your data removed from the internet.
After you have selected to have your information removed, there is a
waiting period. While the request for removal is being processed, that
match will be added to a list, within the app, of requested removals.
That list will be updated automatically once the internet listing is
actually removed.
It is free to just use the app to find out what information is on the
internet about you. It also comes with one free removal of
information. If you want any additional removals, you must subscribe to
their service. A 24.99 subscription will provide you with three months
of unlimited deletions. It is also worth noting that the app also
keeps your information confidential. Perhaps most importantly,
DeleteMeMobile states in their privacy policy that they do not share
your personal information.
